Blast from the past

Thank you Bruce and Liza for sending me this photo of Liza and I. I think it was taken back in the day at OCA when we were working in the photo lab. Liza always wore the best dresses!

Pot à pharmacie

My apothecary jar arrived and I was finally able to put in by bird, butterfly and flowers from V V Rouleaux haberdashery Marylebone, London. I wanted to include a piece of curly willow, but ended up going with old paint brushes instead...much more fun. It really matches my Peynet print behind it too!

Snow in August

Spent an exciting week in Paris with friends who took me on the set of 'The Invention of Hugo Cabret'. I loved the fake snow, it looked perfect! Also found some time to do some sketches at Pere Lachaise cemetery.

Book cover design - old school

I've done a lot of editorial work in the past, but usually I use a 3d software + photoshop + illustrator to whip up final digital artwork. For this book cover I decided to go old school and paint a little sketch then go from there. The above photo shows my initial sketch, below are my proposed book covers.

Last Chance - Lucian Freud 'L'Atelier'

Its the last weekend to visit the Centre Pompidou to see the Lucian Freud 'L'ATELIER' exhibition. Below is a summary taken from the Centre Pompidou website.
Lucian Freud, today aged 88, stands among the most important living artists in the world and he hasn't been exhibited in France since the last retrospective exhibition presented by the Centre Pompidou in 1987. This exhibition presents an exceptional overview of his masterpieces and pays an unprecedented tribute to one of the greatest contemporary painters.

Saucy Minx

Loved by the likes of Lady Gaga who promotes Minx nails on her website, I dipped my ring finger in the sample pot of Minx designs. I loved it! I will definitely be getting a full set for my next big night out. I used Essie's Chinchilli on the remaining nails.
Thank you to nail technician Brandy Glenn at bliss in the W Hotel Hollywood for the suggestion.

Open and Shut: The Guardian vs The Times

While The Times has decided to revert back to the dark ages of the internet by implementing a pay only website, The Guardian has just flung open its doors allowing bloggers easy access for reposting articles from their site.

Vernissage

My exhibition in Cannes is now over, what a great experience! The highlights included being interviewed by RTL (a French radio station) and having the the honour of welcoming Madam Lortie, the partner of the Ambassador of Canada to France and Louise Blais, Director of the Canadian Cultural Centre, Paris, who took the time out of their very busy Cannes schedule to come see the exhibition. Prior to the vernissage on Monday May 10, there was a talk by Thierry Frémaux, General Delegate of the Cannes Festival followed by an overview of the films and a special screening of 'La Piscine'.
I was also very fortunate to attend many films screening in the festival. I saw 'The Myth of the American Sleepover', the Stephen Frears film 'Tamara Drewe', 'Film Socialism' directed by Jean-Luc Godard, 'Blue Valentine' and 'Over Your Cities Grass Will Grow', an intriguing documentary on artist Anselm Kiefer's installation at Barjac. All in all a very busy and memorable week!
